The 5 diet stages after a gastric sleeve

Stage 1 · Clear liquids

Water, sugar-free tea, strained broth and sugar-free gelatin, in small, frequent sips.

Stage 2 · Full liquids and protein

Protein shakes and low-fat dairy or plant-based drinks. Reaching your daily protein goal starts here.

Stage 3 · Purées

Blended, protein-first foods in very small portions, eaten slowly.

Stage 4 · Soft foods

Soft, easy-to-chew foods. You learn to recognize fullness and chew every bite well.

Stage 5 · Regular healthy diet

All food groups in portions that fit your new stomach, building habits for life.

Nutrition follow-up complements, and does not replace, your surgeon's instructions. If you have severe pain, persistent vomiting, fever or cannot keep liquids down, contact your surgeon or go to the emergency room right away.
